The material of the pan directly affects its tone and durability. There are two main mainstream materials on the market:

Stainless steel: As the most common material, stainless steel pans are corrosion-resistant and not easy to rust, with bright and crisp tones. They are cost-effective and suitable for beginners with limited budgets.

Nitrided steel: This material has a higher hardness and can produce a fuller tone, but the price is relatively high and requires regular maintenance. If you pursue the ultimate tone, you can consider nitrided steel pans.

For beginners, the D major scale is relatively easy to start with. When purchasing a handpan drum, one can give priority to a handpan with a D major scale, which can reduce the difficulty of learning.

Generally, the more notes there are, the greater the possibilities for playing. But for beginners, it is recommended to start with a handpan with 9 - 10 notes because its note layout is relatively simple and easier to handle.

Currently, the internationally accepted standard pitch is A = 440Hz, and most musical instruments and musical works are tuned according to this standard.

If beginners want to play in an ensemble with other instruments or play pop music, classical music, etc., it is more convenient to choose a handpan with a pitch of 440Hz. Moreover, if they often collaborate with other musicians, choosing 440Hz can ensure pitch consistency.

Influence on Sound Quality. A larger sized handpan will have a fuller bass, while a smaller sized one will have a brighter treble.

Playing Comfort. Beginners should choose a size that suits their hand shape, which will make playing more comfortable. A medium sized handpan drum is a good choice as it can balance the bass and treble without being too bulky.
